Business support

Connecting attendees to the local business ecosystem

At the PopUp Business School Aotearoa we make sure new businesses stay connected by providing awareness of business network support in specific areas as needed. These connections are all about enabling business sustainability. Being aware of the Bookkeepers Assn NZ or Business Mentors NZ, for example, can provide business input allowing the business to strengthen its foundations and/or its direction.

Porirua

Porirua's name is likely derived from 'Pari-rua', meaning 'the flowing of the two tides', referring to the two tidal estuary arms of Porirua Harbour (Onepoto Arm and Pāuatahanui Inlet). Porirua City is located just 20 minutes north of Wellington. It is a richly diverse commununity with a thriving businesses spirit. Porirua is a coastal city of approximately 183 km2 (18,251 hectares). Urban areas are largely on the western coast around the two arms of the Porirua Harbour and there is a large rural hinterland. The urban areas include residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and recreational land use. Rural areas are largely farming. The city centre is currenltly undergoing a revitalisation with the help of and support from Porirua City Council. The first phase has been completed and now there are new businesses, pop-up shops and monthly Night Markets bringing people and businesses in the city. Recently Porirua has seen the opening of two co-working spaces- the Settlement and Porirua City Hub. Both located in Porirua CBD they provide perfect opportunity for entreprenuers to network and grow their businesses.

Attendees’ feedback

We asked the participants what their Lightbulb moments were at the event. Also they left the messages for our partners and assessed our team’s efforts.
Sometimes you need to leap off the cliff, and learn how to fly on the way down.
Getting more into the head of my ideal customer was huge - realising what I help people with is quietening the ‘Negative Committee’ in their heads so they are free to show up whole-heartedly and to create their very best work.
Take Action, Test the market, Start small (At home) do pre-orders, New ways of marketing = getting yourself & product out there. No need to be shy to talk to people, you don't know who they know.
Not needing to spend money to get it off the ground. Reaching target market on the right platform. Any advertising is creating a possible connection e.g. countdown ad or pamphlets.
Take action!! And fear is just nerves without breath. Also, everything is figureouttarable.
